I've wanted to do these since I first watched Let's Grow Mushrooms.  I might put it outside if stops raining someday

We have an FFU that was installed in a ceiling with its back exposed to an attic, where it was used for a couple years and then not used for 7 years. Is it salvageable?
I was thinking about changing the HEPA filter on it (in addition to changing the pre-filter of course), but it doesn't seem like the FFU is made to be taken not made to be taken apart easily.
What is y'alls' protocol for FFU maintenance and for changing or not the filters?
Do you ever perform a test of the HEPA for leaks?
As always, thanks a ton for the help!

edit: just saw that there is a deep dive on Lion's Mane. I'm stoked. I will watch and and then revisit my post.

Hey y'all, It's my first time making Lion's Mane grain spawn. With the traditional agar->grain->grain, does it generally grow significantly slower than other strains, like oyster and cinnamon cap.. Mine have been taking at least 14-16 days, whereas the others colonize a grain bag in around 10 days.. What is y'all's average colonization time for LM grain spawn bag? Do you recommend a specific grain/ sawdust configuration for getting it to colonize faster/ better? Does it do better on sawdust spawn maybe?
I appreciate any tips!

I'm super curious about growing Tremella. Just heard on the last episode that Erik tried growing it.. I would love any info on successes/!failures/ lessons learned and any indications.. also, probably the most important, anyone know where I can get a viable strain with a compatible that has been fruited? Since I couldn't yet  find anyone in the US growing yet, I'm thinking I gotta try the Chinese.

Erik Lomen mentioned it's association with a bacteria, which is new info to me.. also none of the material I read said anything about growing on pine so that was cool to hear.

Just wanted to say thanks for the last culture and these Mother of Pearls were very tasty. Not sure if it's a wicked good weight but each 5lb block got almost a pound. Pretty much 1 and 9oz

I just listened to the most recent podcast w/ Alex Dorr from 2023-10-02

My take on the plastics - and I don't hear anyone talking about this...

Plastics are hydrocarbons.  They vary in shape and form.  But they can all be incinerated at high temperature - cleanly - making power on a small scale, on demand, in a local / regional way.

Recycling requires massive amounts of energy to separate / sort, clean, process etc. and not all types of plastics can be recycled.  They usually need to be shipped a far distance.  And most of this stuff winds up in landfills or shipped overseas.

So - why not incinerate it, generating power in the process?  It's been recycled:  Into energy.

First - I love HE-CNS...  it produces MONSTER yields for us.  That said - I HATE it (and can't grow it anymore!) because it bruises so easily (green bruises where harvested by hand even when slightly rough).

Does anyone have any experience with this?  Also, how to avoid this?  It's just too much work to explain to chefs and at the farmers market.  Too many phone calls telling us our fresh lions mane is "green molded".  Any help to let us continue using this variety would be greatly appreciated!!

I am looking for a solid Oyster Mushroom culture to grow.  Can I buy a culture from you or do you have a recommendation on where to buy the best quality liquid syringe cultures?  Appreciate it.

Hey again guys! I just watched the short clip on your YouTube channel on the King Blue from mossy creek.. I have been growing it for 3 years now. Currently I have 2 accounts buying 80lbs a week of them in total. I’m sure you know, but that hybrid is even more prone to blotch than a normal oyster.. I noticed in your video’s description you mentioned to cycle different strains to reduce blotch? For example, the king blue will kill it for a month straight, and then it hits the fan for a few weeks in a row with blotch and messes up my weekly orders…. Per say if I cycle the king blue out with your Blue CNS like every 3 weeks that will help keep the blotch down??? Growing 80lbs a week of one type to meet my accounts orders and have it shit on me really hurts!!!

Thank you! Been learning so much from these deep dives and this community🖤🤘🏼

I'm curious what everyone does/recommends..

I would like to follow the recommendation of using the leading edge of plates (as stated on the pheno-flicks) to inoculate masters. However, due to time demands, I have not been able to time my spawn production so that I am ready to transfer when the plate is at the perfect point (the mycelium is 1 or 2 cm from the edge let's say).

In that case, os it better to fridge the plate when it has myceliated maybe half of the plate and then take it out 1 or 2 days before I will transfer it to grain (so that it is active and growing) I can still use the leading edge)?
OR
Is it better to leave it in incubation, and use it even a few days after it has covered the whole plate, but avoid taking from the edges that have a risk of being contaminated?

Really appreciate any inputs, opinions y'all may have.
